This was a house trip so the route is a variant and the speed was a fairly relaxed 23.96km/h.

Average moving speed: 27.58km/h – a new personal best! Once again the weather was/is too good not to go cycling. However, wanting to have more time for revision, I went for the shorter of my two favourite routes. While on the route I thought I was doing a decent speed and had a suspicion this would be a new best, so I was more than a little annoyed when I got back and found that my phone was not responding to any input – either it was still running but not responsive, or had died entirely. The only thing to try was removing the battery – the concern being that if it was still running this would surely remove any chance of me seeing my average moving speed. This was successful in making the phone respond again, and on loading up Google MyTracks I was pleased to find that the route it had been recording had persisted – it seems to have stopped at the traffic lights at the top of Castle hill. This also means I didn’t need to cut short my Cambridge Orbital route (that I did towards the end of last term) to prevent data loss when the battery would have inevitably died.

I couldn’t not cycle in weather as good as it was/is today. Average moving speed: 25.86km/h. The wind going back along the river was surprisingly strong.

Average moving speed: 25.93km/h, distance 37.31km. The river seems to be quieter at around 10am weekdays than Sunday afternoons; I had considered taking the road that follows the river to avoid being slowed down but luckily it wasn’t necessary. I’d imagine it’s a different story if going along the river before 9am on a weekday though.
